Gone But Not Forgotton: Firefly

Anyone who knows me knows that I am a huge Joss Whedon fanboy. And as a fanboy I am legally obligated to love Firefly. Not that it's hard to love, in fact I was a fan well before I knew who Joss was. For those who have never seen the show (shame on you) the best way I can describe it is that it's a space western. The main plot follows Captain Malcolm 'Mal' Reynolds (Nathan Fillion) and his crew. His second in command ZoĆ« Washburne (Gina Torres), The lovable pilot Hoban 'Wash' Washburne (Alan Tudyk), ex solider Jayne Cobb (Adam Baldwin), their mechanic Kaylee Frye (Jewel Staite), and of course the lovable companion *cough*hooker*cough*  Inara Serra (Morena Baccarin). Mal and Zoe were on the wrong side of a war causing them to mistrust the alliance turning them into outlaws of a sort, taking on any job that will pay. They are then joined by Shepherd Book (Ron Glass) the priest who keeps Mal in check and the mysterious brother and sister pair Simon and River Tam (Sean Maher, Summer Glau). The show follows the adventures of the crew as they run from the law and try to figure out what the fuck is up with River.

I can't recommend this show highly enough, but if your still skeptical then just remember Nathan Fillion is in it so it can't possibly be bad (seriously he has never been in anything bad ever, ok maybe Dracula 2000). Firefly is clever well written funny and has a diverse cast of characters. Through its woefully short 14 episode run Firefly never had one bad episode and I, as well as it's legion of fans (Browncoats Represent) really would have liked to see where this series would have gone had it been given a fair shot.  That's right I'm gonna whine an say fox killed the show, if you air a show only on Fridays and out of order it is going to fail. Luckily the fans were all like Fuck you guys and bought every copy of the box set prompting the studio to realize that they were fucking morons and green light a movie.

Serenity was that movie, the movie that introduced me to so much and quickly worked its way into my top ten (number five bitches). I missed Firefly on its original run (I was ten no one told me anything) but luckily I have parents who thought Serenity was the perfect movie for a family day. My parents also knew nothing of Firefly and just thought "hey this looks interesting and will get my kids to shut up for two hours, lets go" I still count this as one of the best things my parents did for me. I was hooked from the get go and nothing has been the same since. I know I rambled a bit back there but moral of the story is watch Firefly, now just drop everything and do it. Until next time "I aim to misbehave"
