It's the story, of a wealthy family. Who lost everything, and the one son who had no choice to keep it all together. To be more spific its the story of Michael Bluth (Jason Batemen) and his son George Michael (Michael Cera) who move back with their family, Their Brother/Uncle's Gob (Will Arentt) and Buster (Tony Hale) Their Sister/Aunt Lindsey Funke (Portia de Rossi) and her Husband Tobias (David Cross) and their Niece/Cousin Maeby (Alia Shawkat). In order to save his parents Lucille (Jessica Walter) and George Sr (Jeffrey Tambor) 's failing company.
Now that I have the generalities out of the way allow me to explain everything in a bit more detail. Michael and his son have just returned to their family in the OC (don't call it that) after Michael's father George Sr. is sent to prison. He is then forced to spend time with his less then conventional family. His overbearing, manipulative, alcholic mother and youngest brother Buster who is less then handy still living and thinking the world of their mother. His brother GOB (George Oscar Bluth) the segway riding failed magician eldest sibling of the Bluth clan. Michael and his son are then forced to share a model home with his sister and her family. His sister Lindsey is the self proclaimed activist often taking on many poorly thought out causes (10 points for who can ever remember what HOOP stood for), her husband Tobias, the failed doctor, failed actor, and nevernude (It's just what it sounds like) of the group, and their daughter Maybe who would do anything just to spite her pairents (stupidest rebelion ever). All in all Arrested Development is the charming sitcom about a less then conventional family just trying to get back on their feet.
I honestly feel like I cant explain this show nearly well enough because of how startlingly creative and original it was. Their never has been nor will be anything on TV like this again. Subtle lines said would reference events happening a season later, punchlines would precede set up's it was comedy anarchy and yet in the end it all worked out to create the single greatest TV show ever to hit the airwaves. I think it worked so well just because of the cast. AD is very much an ensemble comedy with every character pulling twice their weight. (shout out to Narrator Ron Howard who has yet to be mentioned). Unfortunately the combination of its to smart for TV comedy (not in a smug way, just in a flat out smart way) and its Sunday time-slot (I actually got to watch this one on its original run) it barely made it's three season run. But found a remarkable second life on DVD and syndication (it ran on G4 for a while and is now on IFC I believe) and it's fan base is stronger now then ever with interest in a movie still strong (It will never happen but dare to dream) Arrested Development will never die.
If your still not convinced of the supremacy of AD let me enlighten you with a few clips of its gold
